45 Minutes from Lisbon · Alenquer

Close Enough to Reach.
Far Enough to Escape.

Forty kilometres north of Lisbon, in the wine hills above Alenquer. Your guests land in the morning and are among the vines by lunch — but nothing about the place feels like a city venue.

The Location

The Countryside, Without the Journey

The difficulty with a countryside wedding is usually the countryside itself: three hours from an airport, a mountain road at the end of it, and guests who arrive frayed. Quinta do Boiro sits in a rare pocket of Portugal that is genuinely rural and genuinely near — nine hectares of working vineyard in the hills above Alenquer, with a motorway junction fifteen minutes down the valley.

That proximity changes what a wedding weekend can be. Guests can land on the Friday rather than the Wednesday. Suppliers come out from Lisbon without a surcharge for distance. And the people who cannot stay the whole weekend can still come for the day.

Journey Times Your Guests Will Ask About

These are honest driving times outside rush hour, door to door. Alenquer is served by the A1 and A10 motorways, so the route from the airport is fast and simple — one motorway, one exit, ten minutes of country road.

FromBy carNotes
Lisbon Airport (LIS)≈ 45 minMotorway almost the whole way
Central Lisbon≈ 45–50 minAdd time in weekday rush hour
Óbidos≈ 30 minWalled medieval town
Sintra≈ 1 hPalaces and gardens

There is no railway station in the village, so we would not suggest guests rely on trains. Cars, transfers or a coach are all straightforward, and taxis and ride apps serve Alenquer from Lisbon.

Guest Transport

Leave the Driving to Us

For weddings of any size we recommend a coach from Lisbon in the afternoon and back again late, with a second run for the guests who want to leave earlier. It costs less than most couples expect, and it means the wine flows without anyone doing arithmetic about it.

We are glad to help you organise this, and to build a simple travel page you can send to your guests with directions, transfer times and hotel suggestions in their own language.

City or Country

Why Not Simply Marry in Lisbon?

Plenty of couples do, and Lisbon is a beautiful city to marry in. But a city wedding is a wedding shared with a city — traffic outside the window, a venue that has another booking the following morning, guests dispersed across a dozen hotels, and a hard finish because of noise rules and neighbours.

Forty-five minutes up the road, the terms change. The estate is yours alone for the whole weekend, the music can carry on, and the only neighbours are the vines. For couples who want the ease of Lisbon without the compromises of a city venue, that short drive is the whole point.

A practical note

If you would like guests to spend time in Lisbon as well, the easiest pattern is two or three nights in the city at the start of the trip, then out to the estate for the wedding weekend. Many couples send guests home via Lisbon so the holiday brackets the wedding at both ends.

Either Side

What Guests Do With the Other Days

Alenquer sits in the middle of a surprising amount. Guests who arrive early or stay on rarely run out of things to do, and none of it requires more than an hour in the car.

Questions

About 45 minutes by road from Lisbon airport, and roughly the same from the centre of the city. The estate is around 40 km north of Lisbon, near Alenquer, and almost the whole route is motorway.

Not necessarily. Many do, but for a wedding group a coach from Lisbon is usually simpler — and it means nobody has to drive home after the party. Taxis and ride-hailing apps also serve Alenquer from Lisbon.

The manor house and three independent apartments on the estate sleep the couple and their closest family and friends. Everyone else stays in Alenquer and the surrounding villages, a few minutes away. We will help you put a list together.

Yes — Óbidos is around 30 minutes north, Sintra about an hour south-west, and the Atlantic beaches near Ericeira roughly 45 minutes west. All comfortable day trips for guests arriving early or staying on.

Yes, and gladly. Weekday weddings are often easier to secure at short notice during the summer, and guests who have travelled internationally rarely mind which day it falls on.
