Fly in for a Weekend.
Stay for a Lifetime.

A private wine estate in the hills of Alenquer, 45 minutes from Lisbon airport. Nine hectares held for one wedding at a time — ceremony, dinner, dancing and beds for the people closest to you, all behind the same gate.

Why Quinta do Boiro

A Whole Estate, for the Two of You

Most destination weddings ask you to assemble a day from parts — a church here, a restaurant there, hotels scattered across a town, coaches shuttling everyone between them. Quinta do Boiro was restored to do the opposite. Everything your wedding needs already stands within nine hectares, and for the duration of your celebration those nine hectares belong to you alone.

The estate sits in the hills above Alenquer, in one of Portugal's oldest wine regions, forty-five minutes from an international airport with direct flights from across Europe and North America. Close enough that your guests arrive without a second flight or a long transfer. Far enough that the moment the gate closes behind them, the city stops existing.

Portugal

Why Couples Choose Portugal

Portugal has quietly become one of Europe's most-loved wedding destinations, and the reasons are practical as much as romantic. The light is long and generous from May to October. The food and wine are exceptional without being expensive. English is widely spoken. Flights are short and frequent from London, Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin, New York and Boston, and countless other locations. And a celebration here still costs meaningfully less than the equivalent day in Tuscany, Provence or the Amalfi Coast.

What surprises most couples is how easy the country is to arrive in. Lisbon is a single airport with one terminal for most European arrivals, thirty kilometres of motorway from the estate. Guests who land at midday are on the terrace with a glass of wine before the afternoon is out.

Worth knowing

Alenquer belongs to the Lisboa wine region and enjoys warm, dry summers tempered by Atlantic air. June through September are the driest and most reliable months; May and October bring softer light and lower temperatures, and are increasingly the months couples ask for first.

Exclusive Use

What Exclusive Use Actually Means

Some venues use the phrase to mean you have booked a room. Here it means the estate closes. One celebration at a time — no second party in the next field, no strangers at the pool, no other couple's guests wandering through your photographs. The chapel, the manor, the gardens, the pavilion, the vineyards and every path between them are held for you.

It also means the day can breathe. Nothing has to finish because another booking is arriving. Ceremonies run late because the light was too good to leave. Dinner stretches. The dancing decides its own ending. This is the single thing couples tell us afterwards mattered most.

The Shape of It

A Boiro Wedding Is Rarely One Day

Because your guests have flown to be here, most couples spread the celebration across a weekend rather than compressing it into an afternoon. There is no obligation to — but this is the rhythm that tends to emerge.

Friday — Arrival and Welcome

Guests arrive through the afternoon. A relaxed welcome dinner in the courtyard or under the bougainvillea, long tables, estate wine, nobody dressed up yet. The people who have travelled furthest get to meet each other before the day itself.

Saturday — The Wedding

Morning in the manor with the doors open. An outdoor ceremony in the gardens or among the vines in the late afternoon. Drinks under the trees while the light turns. Dinner under the Vineyard Pavilion or in the reception hall, and dancing until the small hours.

Sunday — The Morning After

The couple and their close family don't have to leave. Breakfast among the vines, a slow lunch by the pool, a last walk down to the fountain. For most couples this turns out to be the part they remember — the day the wedding stopped being an event and became a weekend with the people they love.

Beds on the Estate

The manor house and three independent apartments — two one-bedrooms and a two-bedroom for families — sleep the couple and their closest family and friends on the estate itself, each with its own entrance and its own quiet rhythm. The bride and groom usually take the master suite at the far end of the house, and wake to the vines on their first married morning.

Everyone else stays in Alenquer and the villages nearby, a few minutes away by road. We are glad to help you put together a list and arrange transport so that nobody has to think about driving.

“If you are looking for a wedding venue that is not a wedding factory, this is the one. We were given total freedom to choose the spaces for every moment of our day.”

What International Couples Ask Us First

The estate is in Pereiro de Palhacana, Alenquer, about 45 minutes by road from Lisbon airport — almost all of it motorway. Most guests hire a car; for groups we can help arrange a coach or private transfers.

Only the couple and their closest family and friends can stay on the estate — the manor house and three independent apartments sleep this inner circle. Everyone else stays in Alenquer and the surrounding villages, a short drive away.

Yes — that is rather the point. Ceremony, drinks, dinner and dancing all happen within the nine hectares: an outdoor ceremony in the gardens or among the vines, dinner under the Vineyard Pavilion or in the reception hall, dancing on from there. No coaches, no gaps, no lost hour in the middle of the day.

Up to 200 under the Vineyard Pavilion out in the vines, up to 150 for dinner under the stars in the courtyard, and up to 120 seated indoors in the reception hall. Smaller weddings suit the estate just as well — many of our favourite days have been for forty people.

Never. One celebration at a time. When you book Quinta do Boiro the gates close behind your guests and the estate is yours.

Yes. You are free to bring the suppliers you want, wherever they are from. If you would rather not start from scratch, we are happy to suggest people we have worked with and trust.
