Vows Under Open Sky
Ceremonies in the gardens, among the vines or in the courtyard beside a fourteenth-century fountain — with a baroque chapel a few steps away for the quiet moment before, and a proper plan if it rains.

Ceremonies
Most venues have a spot. Quinta do Boiro has several, and because only one celebration happens here at a time you are not allocated one — you choose. Couples walk the estate with us and pick the place that suits their month, their light and the number of people they are expecting.
What every option shares is that the ceremony, the drinks and the dinner are all within a few minutes' walk of each other. Nobody gets in a car. Nobody loses an hour. The day keeps its thread.
The Settings
These are the settings couples choose between. Which one is right usually becomes obvious about ten minutes into a visit.
Beneath the old trees, on the shaded lawn, with bougainvillea along the walls and the fountain within earshot. The most popular choice from May to October, and the kindest to guests in high summer.
Out in the vineyard itself, with the Alenquer hills behind you. Best in the late afternoon when the light comes in low across the rows — the setting photographers ask for first.
Old stone, the fourteenth-century fountain, the manor rising on one side. Enclosed and intimate, and a natural choice for smaller weddings or for an evening ceremony that flows straight into drinks.
The Vineyard Pavilion out in the vines takes the ceremony as easily as the dinner — useful in the hottest weeks of summer, and the safest choice if the forecast is uncertain.
Fully indoors and completely weatherproof — the reassuring choice for couples who would rather not watch the sky. The hall takes the ceremony as readily as the dinner and dancing that follow, all under one roof.
The Chapel
At the heart of the estate stands the private chapel — a jewel of Portuguese baroque craftsmanship, with an intricately gilded altarpiece in marble and gold framed by original stone arches. Prayers have been spoken beneath it for hundreds of years.
Couples slip away from the celebration to stand there for a moment together, and photographers return to it again and again. It is one of the most affecting spaces on the estate precisely because nothing loud ever happens in it.
We do not hold wedding ceremonies inside the chapel. It is kept as a space for photographs and quiet moments, and every ceremony at Quinta do Boiro takes place outdoors. We would rather tell you that now than have you picture something we cannot give you.
The Weather
Between June and September it very rarely does — Alenquer summers are hot and dry, and the more common problem is finding shade rather than shelter. In May and October a shower is possible, and in the winter months it should simply be planned for.
The estate is unusual in having a genuine indoor alternative for every outdoor moment. The Vineyard Pavilion is covered and stays out in the vines. The reception hall seats up to 120 with the dinner and dancing already in place. The manor's salon and dining room take smaller groups. Nothing has to be improvised on the morning.
We agree the alternative plan with you when we plan the day, not at eight in the morning on the day itself. You will know exactly where the ceremony moves to, who decides, and by what time — so that if the sky turns, the only thing that changes is the room.
Intimate Weddings
Some of the best days we have hosted were for forty guests, and the estate does not treat them as lesser. A small wedding gets exactly the same exclusive use of the same nine hectares — the gardens, the chapel, the pool, the whole of it.
In fact the estate suits an intimate wedding particularly well. Everybody fits around one long table. The couple and their closest family stay on the estate, with everyone else just a few minutes away.
Questions
No. The chapel is not used for ceremonies — it is kept as an intimate space for photographs and quiet moments. Every ceremony at Quinta do Boiro takes place outdoors, in the gardens, the vineyard, the courtyard or under the pavilion.
In the gardens beneath the old trees, out among the vines, in the courtyard beside the fourteenth-century fountain, or under the Vineyard Pavilion. You choose — we do not allocate a spot.
The Vineyard Pavilion is covered and stays out in the vines, and the reception hall seats up to 120 indoors. We agree the alternative plan with you well in advance, so if the weather turns the only thing that changes is the room.
Celebrants and officiants of your choosing are welcome for a symbolic ceremony or blessing outdoors. A Catholic church wedding has its own requirements, arranged through the parish rather than through us. See the historic churches near Quinta do Boiro our couples choose most. Many international couples complete the legal marriage separately — our planning guide explains the options.
Yes, gladly. Forty guests suits the estate as naturally as two hundred, and a smaller wedding still has exclusive use of the entire property.
